Good Afternoon,
How is everybody doing this week? I hope all is well. Well this week has been pretty crazy!! I lost my companion Elder Faumui but i got a new awesome companion Elder Ambrose. I think i told you all this last week but Elder Ambrose is from Trinidad and Tobago. He has been a member of the church for 7 years and has an amazing testimony. He has been out for 9 months and Elder Faumui trained him.
This week we had a baptism. Samantha Johnson was baptized. We had been teaching her since February and she is great. So we are totally teaching a lady from the re-organized LDS church and it is probably some of the craziest discussions I have had so far. It is odd because she believes with her whole heart the Book of Mormon is true as well as the Doctrine and Covenants up to when Joseph was martyred and that Joseph Smith was a true prophet. Her trouble is that she doesn't believe that Brigham Young was a prophet. But at the same time the re organized church completely stopped claiming the restoration and the Book of Mormon and have started ordaining women to their priesthood and pretty much doesn't even exist anymore. The name has been changed to the Community of Christ. They didn't agree with the changes so they were silenced in their church. Now she doesn't go there to church so we have been talking with her. Her daughter in law is an active member of the Grand Cayman LDS church and that is how we came in contact with her. It is so weird to teach someone about what we believe when they believe almost the same thing. She is waiting.
Right now though the work is moving fast but we are having a drought with people to teach in the afternoons. From about 1 to 4 in the afternoon nobody is home because they all work. It is hard to find effective things to do sometimes.
Crazy story, so this week we had district meeting on Wednesday and the topic was about service and how it goes with missionary work. Pretty much all of the off islands are having troubles using their time effectively between 1 and 4 in the afternoon so the topic was finding random acts of service and helping others and hopefully being able to effectively invite those who Heavenly Father places in our paths to learn about the restored gospel. So the next day we are driving and there is a couple of cars on the side of the road and one with the hood up and immediately I thought after we have a district meeting instructing us how important it is to have random service in our day I am not going to pass this opportunity by. So we stopped and they didn't really need our help but they did want us to follow them because they were going to tow it down the road a few miles to the mans house. So we followed with our flashers and no lie there was like 50 cars lined up behind us. Well we get to his house and push his car into his drive way and then talked with him for a minute. Well we find out that he is from Haiti and is living with his girlfriend and they have three children but they really want to be married and his cousin is a member of the branch. They said they would have some discussions with us. Then we looked at the watch and it was time for our next appointment. It is crazy how many effective things that Heavenly Father places in our path but sometimes we get to distracted and miss them.
Well that was the week. I love you all and miss you. Keep being faithful and happy. You are all the greatest and never forget who you are.
Love Elder Stuart
