Hello EVERYONE!!!!
How is everybody this week? Everything here in Old Harbour is going great. I am loving it. I did get a new companion this week. I will be training a brand new Elder from England. His name is Elder Grant. Yes he has a British accent and it is hilarious sometimes. He is a great missionary and is excited to work and help out. He is very humble and has a sincere concern for everybody we meet. I think I am learning more from him than he is from me honestly.
We have had a ton of practice at street contacting and gate to gate finding this week. One day we had every single one of our appointments fall through. I think the last time that happened was when Elder Montgomery and I were together. Yesterday we had a ton of appointments fall through as well.
Also another downer for yesterday was we had no investigators at church. It is starting to cool down here i think. I hope so because I don't know how much longer I can take this heat. Also thanks to all the chocolate and Swedish fish from Sam my figure is starting to fade. haha.
Something funny about this week is our zone is having a competition of which companionship can ask for the most referrals from investigators and members. It has us asking so that is good. One thing I don't like is losing in competitions. haha Not only are we going to win but also we are going to get a lot more people to teach. I hope they keep doing stuff like this because this kind of stuff is what makes missionary work fun.
This week we had a lesson with Ann Marie. During our lesson we were teaching about tithing. She started bearing her testimony about tithing and how she knows that it is a must. I love it when investigators bear their testimony's about things we teach. I feel like I am doing my job as a missionary better.
So yesterday Elder Grant and I were biking in the ghetto and this girl hollers at us, so we stop. As she is walking towards us I get a very uncomfortable feeling. Then i realize she has a bottle of Heineken in her hand, and she has this look on her face like she wants to eat me. She says with that look on her face "teach me what is says in the bible". So I say the first thing that came to my mind. "It teaches us that it is a sin to drink strong or alcohol". Then she said "what else" and steps closer to me. haha So I am leaned off my bicycle praying that this girl doesn't attack me or kiss me or molest me or what not and i say "It teaches us how to be like Jesus". And she says "how?" and steps closer to me and I say. "by repenting!!!" haha i guess thats one way to declare repentance. And we ride off. It was secretly funny looking back on it. At the time I was havin a mini panic attack and I'm sure Elder Grant was freaking out as well.
Well I am having a wonderful time here in Jamaica and I will be here in Old Harbour until December 12, 2012. Grandpa's Birthday!!! I will be training Elder Grant for 12 weeks so it will go by really fast if it goes as fast as it went for my training.
I can't belive I have been out and away from everybody for 5 months already!!! I know mom you beg to differ but you got to admit it is going a little fast. Well I love you all and never forget the church is true and if you don't know that yet find out for yourself.
Love Elder Stuart
