Who Knew Lizards Could Be So Scary?

Hello from Old Harbour, Jamaica

How is everybody this week.  It sounds like all is going well and everybody is staying busy.  Well i have a couple of stories for this week.

Story number 1: So we were teaching a lady named Sister Francis and we have been teaching her for a long time.  She is a really nice lady. When she gets talking though you can't stop her. Well we noticed one day that we really need to have a really spiritual lesson with her and change our attitude with her when we teach. Well we set that as one of our goals that day. That night we had the most amazing experience with her. We were teaching her the plan of salvation and at the end of it she just went off on bearing her testimony of it. After about 5 minutes of her testimony I was wishing I could video it because it was so amazing. And she started saying how that she had never felt the way she did so strongly.  And after about 10 minutes of it she was saying how she didn't want to stop bearing her testimony because she didn't want the feeling to leave.  She said that this lesson was different than any other lesson she had ever had with us. She probably bore her testimony for a good 15 minutes. It was sooo cool. It was all because we changed our attitude about teaching her and instead of going just to try to teach through her talking we listened with love and taught with love and it made a world of a difference.

Ok story number 2: We were leaving for an appointment on our way to the next one and we were out of money and we were debating on whether or not we wanted to go get ice cream on our way back to the house after the next appointment at the end of the day. So we sat there really pondering on what we wanted to do. One direction is the long way but went right past the ATM and the next was was the short cut. So after a couple minutes of not knowing what we wanted to do we flipped a coin and as we flipped it Elder Montgomery said, "We'll leave it up to God" heads long way tails short cut. Well it was heads!!! Not two minutes after we were going the long way a car pulled up to us (by the way we were really looking for people to teach) and the lady said, "My son was wondering what you guys do"!!! Well anyway it was the perfect finding opportunity.  They go to church in Maypen which is like 20 minutes away. The lady said that she was going to try to come to church on Sunday and that she was willing to listen to our message. And just soon after that we found another lady who was willing to listen to us. God works in mysterious ways.

Ok third story: This happened last night. We were just settling in for bed and just about to say our prayers. Suddenly I saw a lizard run out of the curtain above Elder Montgomery's bed.  I point and say Lizard and Elder Montgomery jumps up and runs!!! It was soooo funny. People here are scared of lizards like we are of mice. I wasn't that scared of them when I first got here but then I heard that they bite!! Well while Elder Montgomery was cowering in the corner I try to run the lizard down the wall to where we could kill it. Well it fell on Elder Montgomery's bed and he was so mad.  Well we probably chased that lizard around our room for about 25 or 30 minutes. We were not going to go to bed with a lizard running rabid around our room. It reminded me a lot of the chicken story(just ask my dad or brothers about this one)!! Except for this time I was somewhat the brave one.  Well it ended up running into Elder Montgomery's guitar case and I was on my hands and knee's looking for it. Well it comes running out of the guitar case and Elder Montgomery lets out a wail and jumps on his bed and that scared me so I let out a wail and this lizard is running directly at me. Well to make a long story short I finally killed it haha. It was hilarious. I am laughing right now just writing it.

I love you all and hope everything starts to go better with the rain. Always remember to do what is right even if it means to make a sacrifice or two. Just like the hymn Praise to the man says "Sacrifice brings forth the blessings of heaven"

Love Elder Stuart

  1. Great stories.... but I need to know if he ever got to the ice cream!!!! Sounds like he is doing great. He and Elder Calder are emailing weekly - fun to hear them encouraging each other.
