Dear Family,
I will most likely be here in Cayman until July 17!! Crazy huh? Time flies I do not even know what to think. Yes President Hendricks is no longer the mission president for the Jamaica Kingston Mission but we have a new awesome mission president, President Kevin Brown. I am looking forward to serving with him.
Well this week has been pretty crazy!! Being the only missionaries in Cayman kinda makes it so you have more responsibilities than just proselyting. This week we had to sell a car, take our car to get the oil changed, spend more time at immigration, and throw in a little hard labor through service. It has been a crazy week.
Most of the errands started on Thursday. We started to do Elder Ambrose's immigration on Thursday and took the papers in. They told him that he can't get a work permit without local health insurance. So after spending all that time doing that stuff we couldn't even submit it. Immigration just does everything imaginable to stop the work in the Cayman Islands.
Then on Friday we helped a member here who is so awesome pull weeds in his yard. It was pretty cool. While we were pulling, this big fat iguana thought he would be smart and eat some of Jack's garden. So Jack got this big long rod and snuck up on this iguana and started beating it until it died. It was hilarious.
Well when we got back from doing service the guy who wanted to buy our car called us and said he had the money and he wanted to sign papers today. Well so we hurry and get back and changed and go to the drivers licensing office to sign and we get there and we can't even sign for it, it has to be our branch president. So the next day we take more time to do that. It was just a week full of errands and distractions it felt like. We definitely learned a lot from this week. The good news is that the big conference has us and the branch paying more attention to using resources and rescuing and doing missionary work.
So one day this week we were stopped at our relief society presidents fruit stand getting a smoothie and talking with some people when a couple of ladies come up and were like "look it is the Mormons". So we start talking to them and ask them what they know about the church. Well they go off on how we are a cult and we don't let anybody drink Pepsi and how we need to do more research in our own church. So then we told them how unfortunate it is that they are so hard-hearted and so forth. Well they left and a man was there and he said he was willing to let us share our message and then right after that a stake president from New Hampshire comes walking up with his wife and wants to take a picture with us!! Haha it was a complete 180. We were cracking up at it afterward. Then we went and got a shake from dairy queen for lunch one day and we were sitting on the water front where all the tourists were. Then out of nowhere a bus passes and a lady says, "hey look quick it is the missionaries!!!" and literally half of the bus turned and waved and got really excited. Then two minutes later a returned missionary on vacation runs over and shakes our hands and thanks us for the service. It is pretty awesome to see faithful Latter Day Saints, both from the area where we serve and just randomly who are on vacation. We crack up all the time at the excitement of some people.
That is basically the week we had. The work is still going great. there is no place on earth where I would rather be. Keep being faithful and praying. I love you all so much.
Love Elder Stuart
